To the moon
This is a mixed media piece made with gouache, pencil and paperengineering. It’s a silly little story about a girl wanting a cheese toasty but eventually having to go all the way to the moon for it.
This project is still being worked at the moment. The finished piece will exist out of 6 full spreads, with several moving and interactable elements.
This is the page where the girl dreams of a cheese toasty. Two little flaps reveal her dream and also a mouse hiding under her sofa.
This is the page where the girl goes to the kitchen to make herself a cheese toasty but finds out that the mice have run off with the cheese.
The toast and the mice both move on a pully system with little paper tabs at the edge of the page.
This is the page where the girl dreams the moon to be made of cheese.
The cat is trying to paw at the mice in the kitchen cupboard.
This is a spot illustration in combination with paper engeneering. This is the moment the girl build her little airplane.
It’s starts as a flat 2D shape and forms a 3D airplane by pulling at strings. See video above to see how it works.
With her cardboard ship made, she flies off to space.
Finally arrived in space, she can eat her toasty dipped in cheese.
